Drivers Education - Classroom and Behind The Wheel InstructionDrivers EducationCloquet Community Education offers Driver’s Education for students in Cloquet (including CAAEP) and Fond du Lac only. We check to make sure students go to these schools. If you are open enrolled, you must call the Community Education office at 879-1261 to sign up. Get ready to learn how to drive! This fun class has 30 hours of classroom learning. You will learn the rules of the road and how to drive safely. You will also get 6 hours of driving practice with an instructor. You must come to all classes. You need to finish all 30 hours before you can take your permit test. After you finish the class, you will be matched with a driving instructor. You will also get your blue E-card so you can take your permit test. Join us to start learning how to drive safely and feel confident on the road! Classroom instructor: Dave EsseDriving instructors: Dave Esse and David Wangen When you sign up, use the student’s full legal name (including middle name) and birth date exactly as it is on their birth certificate. If you choose to make payments on the class fee, the second half is due on October 1 for the September class, February 1 for the January class, and May 1 for the April class. Registering a credit card on your account will allow you to automatically make the payment when it is due. 2026-2027 school year schedule: September 21 - October 26, 2026 (no class October 14) Student must be 15 by December 31, 2026 January 11 - February 22, 2027 (no class January 18 & 25, February 15) Student must be 15 by April 1, 2027 April class: April 12 - May 12, 2027: Student must be 15 by August 31, 2027Fall 2026 -
Drivers Education - Online Classroom and Behind The Wheel InstructionDrivers EducationDrivers Education class scholarships can not be used for the online version. Cloquet Community Education has a fully online class you can take from home! This class is made for students in Minnesota. It uses fun and helpful ways to teach so students stay interested while learning. What’s great about this class: You can start anytime and work at your own speed You can do up to 3 hours each day Lessons are ready whenever you want (on-demand) Teachers are licensed in Minnesota and teach in a live-style class There is not a lot of reading Every student gets a free study guide You can turn on captions to read along There are hands-on activities to help you learn, and parents can join too You can get help from a teacher anytime (24/7) You have 6 months to finish the class The class is made just for Minnesota students by Minnesota driving teachers The program is approved by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety After you finish the online class, you will do driving lessons with a licensed Cloquet instructor. Drivers Education Scholarship ApplicationDrivers EducationScholarships are only available for the in-person classes. Cloquet Community Education is offering Drivers Education Scholarships to help students in need of financial assistance. These scholarships are made possible through funding provided by Carlton County Public Health and Human Services as part of the Opiate Settlement. Scholarship Details: Scholarships will cover 50% of the Drivers Education enrollment cost. Families will be responsible for the remaining $240 balance. The $240 must be paid prior to the start of the course. Scholarships are limited to three (3) students per section Scholarships are limited to Carlton County residents. Application Deadline August 15, 2026 – for the September class December 15, 2026 for the January class March 15, 2027 for the April class Please register for the specific Drivers Education Section that you want to enroll in Selection Process: If the number of applicants exceeds available scholarships, recipients will be randomly selected. Families may wait to register for the class until they are notified about scholarship awards. The drawing for the scholarships will occur after the deadlines. Additional Information: Unused scholarships will roll over to the next Drivers Education section. This scholarship program is funded by Carlton County Public Health and Human Services and administered by Cloquet Community Education. Please register the student for the application, not the parent. Recipients of the scholarship who fail to attend the Drivers Ed classes will be ineligible for any other opportunities for scholarships with Community Education. Questions?
